The Goucher College team placed first in the Novice Division at the First Annual Invitational Intercollegiate Competition held at Sweet Briar College on October 20 and 21, 2007. Sweet Briar College’s Team A was a close second, followed by Sweet Briar College Team B, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, George Mason University, and Hood College. Nicolette Merle-Smith of Goucher College was the overall individual winner.
Sweet Briar’s team won the National Division, followed by Centenary College and University of the South. Kelly MacDonald claimed the high-score individual award.
The competition was composed of three phases: Dressage Sportif (counting 40%), Hunter Trials Equitation (30%), and Hunter Seat Equitation (30%). The format was similar to the ANRC National Equitation Championship (usually held in April), absent the written test. Fence heights were 2’6″ for the Novice Division and 3′ for the National Division.
